Edgar is the Bestest Boy at Friendship Village

AGency met Edgar at Friendship Village and immediately knew we had a star on our hands. We created a pitch for National Pet Month to give a firsthand look at how animals can transform emotional wellbeing.

The laid-back French Bulldog lives at Friendship Village Chesterfield, spendingn his days visiting residents, easing anxiety at doctor visits, and offering quiet companionship, often just by sitting beside someone who needs it.

For many older adults, especially those navigating isolation or health challenges, that simple presence is meaningful.

“We like to say Edgar’s activity level is about a 1. We call him our potato, and he was just born that way. But his impact level is a total 10 as he brightens the day of all he meets,” says Sarah Smith, Edgar’s primary human and transportation coordinator at Friendship Village in Chesterfield.

For National Pet Month, Edgar gave a charming look at how pets fit into daily life for older adults. A typical day at Friendship Village includes:

  • Riding through the halls on his “car” passing resident apartments and sporting a Cardinals jersey.
  • Trotting down to the on-site ice cream shop for a pup cup, tail wagging.
  • Joining the ladies at the beauty shop, where he naps under the hairdryer.

“He lives a very happy life and brings happiness into the lives of others,” says Smith.
