Our Advice for Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is two weeks from today, and many nonprofits will spend the coming days polishing up their donor communications. A few ideas to keep it fresh:

1. Our most important piece of advice is to set a specific goal that donors can visualize. Do you need a new refrigerator for client meds? A vehicle for transporting people or materials? Think of this as giving your donors a wish list while they’re getting into the holiday spirit!

2. Write your ask from an unexpected perspective. Not to shove the EDs aside, but almost every Giving Tuesday request will come from them. Running an animal organization? Write the letter from the perspective of one of your furry friends. A mental health organization? Have one of the therapists tell your donors what their year has been like. It’s unique, engaging, and thoughtful.

3. In almost every scenario, it’s a good idea to inject a bit of fun into your messaging. Write a Giving Tuesday-themed poem. Give your campaign a unique name. (Example: Operation Food Search calls it Giving Foodsday.) Throw confetti around. Invite your best people to stop by for coffee and donuts to celebrate generosity.

Good luck to all on their campaigns!
